Had to transport soldiers

This was an interesting trip. I was on the plane that DB Cooper jumped out of and we landed in a white out. We could not let the tail down to get off the plane for 2 hrs because... read more

Temporary Duty at USAF Base Thule for thirty days each year for three years in late 60's early seventies. Flying every day counting and plotting ice burgs. The facilities on the base were outstanding...chow hall, club, theater, bowling. The TDY barracks were Quonsat Huts but had very nice private rooms for visiting flight crews. The Winter Storms were rough and... More

Went here on a business trip in June 2006. If you ever get a chance then just go do it. There are ice caves, icebergs, fjords, unique flowers and fauna of the region. Then landscape is a true testament to being at the top of the world. The summer months are daylight 24 hours a day. It's unusual to see... More

Lots to see and do, we visited in the summer but could still see icebergs and glaciers, and the wether was in the 50s, (°F) so not terrible. It's a very interesting place that not many get to visit. The base offers activities and sightseeing as well. Make the most of your time here!

A very special experience watching the sun go around (well above the horizon) 24 hours a day. The rocky landscape bursts into colors of the rainbow with small blooms and large blooms for about a week. Otherwise it is rock or ice. MANY THINGS TO LEARN.

This was an interesting trip. I was on the plane that DB Cooper jumped out of and we landed in a white out. We could not let the tail down to get off the plane for 2 hrs because of the winds. It was 32 below without the windchill....

Lived there for a year in '08-'09. It's one of those things that you see it once and that's it. 24 hours of darkness for 3 months. 24 hours of sunlight for 4 months. Icebergs floating by. Station Alert. The snow. More snow. It all depends on why you need to go there.

Don't go here unless you have work to do = or take alot of paper and write "The Great American Novel" - After you explore around town for 2 days, there really is not much else to do. The Food and Booze is reasonably priced.

I stayed here on business in July of 2011 so things may have changed. I was here for three weeks along with two co-workers. The rooms were clean but small. There is no personal bathroom or shower in your room. There is a communal bathroom with several showers, and toilets that are private. I have never been to college or... More

Not many places like that in the world! Where else can you go bowling or catch a movie with the North Pole only a thousand miles away? The Inland Ice is not far away and a hike on that is one of the greatest things I've tried. If you get a chance - Go!
