I wished I’d visited this museum before Machu Picchu - it provides lots of background information together with artefacts - mainly domestic - from nearby Inca sites. On an organised tour of Peru, we had the best part of a day to kill before catching...More

We visited this museum after our first trip to the historical Machu Picchu (we're going a 2nd time to the historical site!). It was cool to read more detail that complimented the information our guide gave us during our trek through Machu Picchu. If you're...More

This museum was organized by museum professionals. Limited scope relevant to the subject. Lots of context with limited displays. Would recommend prior to your trip up the hill. A good hike on the busy road, so be careful and aware.

A 30 min walk down the valley from Aguas Calientes you come upon this little Museum not particularly cheap at 22 soles for the size but worth for the information it supplies. Recommended if you are staying in the area for a few days to...More

The museum is worth a visit - though is a bit of a walk out of Aguas Calientes. As this is alongside a river and you get a glimpse of Machu Picchu on the mountain top it is actually quite a pleasant walk in itself....More

And the botanic garden adjacent is nice too. If it's raining be careful, as the stones become very slippery. The museum is small but has interesting displays. There's also a little video that the caretaker can play for you. Bonus--you get to sit and rest...More

This was a good explanatory site with information and interesting items taken from Machu Picchu, including a gold arm covering-the only gold item recovered from the ruins. It gave information that our guide didn't include, so I think it's a worth a visit. It's about...More

It takes about 20 minutes to walk there from Aguas Callientes and went there after visiting Machu Picchu. Lots of information about Machu Picchu and Inca civilisation which gave a greater appreciation the place and the people.

We went to this museum after spending a day at Macchu Picchu and another at Wayna Picchu. The museum really helped to tie all of the information together after having seen it for ourselves! It's in a strange location (30 min walk out of town)...More

You can walk but it will take about 45 mins. The buses to MP go past it but will not drop you off! The only other way would be a taxi. I don't know the opening hours but you can check that on their website.
