It is definitely worth to go if you are in Dambulla. There is no fee to this place. However it is about 2 km far from the center but tuk tuk will cost you only 200 rupees.

Just stunning. Can't begin to describe the Buddha statues and wall paintings, too much to take in. Well worth it. Don't visit if it is a holy day or public holiday though - gets very crowded.

Stopped as part of our tour. Okay but nothing more. You can walk between here and the Cave Temple which we only established later but I expect is a nice walk.

The temple was nice and all, and I definitely recommend a visit, but I lost interest in the Buddha statues after looking at a dozen or so of them. For me and my wife, the monkeys were the main attraction.

Would suggest to be guided by a certified tour guide, a must visit for history and culture buffs. Dress appropriately, carry enough water and sunscreen

Would definitley recommend that you visit this temple if you are in the area. The caves sit at the top of a short uphill walk, during which you can take in some amazing views of Dambulla. We didn't spend too long at the temple, as...More

Being my first visit to Sri Lanka, I left the majority of sites/tours etc. up to the tour operator....which of course, included all the sites frequented by tourists (as well as locals/nationals). This being one of those sites, but definitely worthy of the hike up...More

Impressive caves with huge amount of Buddah statues. Remember to cover shoulders and knees, applies to both men and women.

I think you can pay in US$ as well. Some attractions are quite expensive, for example Sigiriya Lion Rock is $35. You can also climb Pidurangala Rock for 200 LKR each and get a beautiful view that is the same as the view from... More

Damian, We were on a guided tour. So entrance to the golden temple was covered as part of the package. What I can tell you is there is a huge difference between the tourist rate and the Sri Lankan rate. I would go so far... More

Well, this is a place of religious worship of great significance and hence visitors are expected to dress appropriately. There are no cafes on-site due to the same reason.
