Sept 2015 • Family
After the Eva commercial filmed here, the government closed off the roads to make a cycling path. There are several paths and you can bike freely in the fields. I went in early September when the rice was green and still young, but each month you see something different. Bike rentals are cheap (3 dollars) and some companies let you return it in a different location. A bit crowded with local families on the weekends tho.

My family visited Taitung in July and visited Chishang due to the famous rice and related products. Coincidentally, we found many bike stores around the town ( just outside the train station ). The price was reasonable and we ended up rented 3 bikes for 3 hours followed by renting a motorized family bike touring the town. It was a pleasant day out despite it rained heavily during the day.

It was a totally new and magnificent experience cycling in the rice fields and following the irrigation canals along this designated bicycle path. Given the expanse of the rice fields and the hills in the surrounding areas, it was an invigorating experience just being able to enjoy the marvellous scenery and agriculture.
There are maps located along the bicycle path so it is not difficult to find your location along the many tracks mean you can cycle here for hours on end. There are a few pavilions located along the cycling track although one is pretty much out in the open fields most of the time with little shade. So if you go on a hot sunny day, remember to put on some sunblock.
Because of the popularity of Mr Brown Road, this bicycle pathway is more crowded than the rest that I've cycled in (Guanshan, Taitung City). Watch out for the occasional small lorries used by locals that also utilize the bicycle track to get to their destination in the village or rice fields.
