After lunch we visited this still operating theatre. It has a history dating back to the raj and maharajas. It is a small and charming example of exclusive gatherings. A brief visit worthwhile.

A must go place if you are a movie, theatre loving person. If you come down from the ridge through the stair case to the lower Mall road, there is this theatre. After paying a small entry fee of Rs.10/- you will enter & explore a different era of Indian culture.Offcourse a guide will accompany you with no cost and made you sit in the hall and explain about the history, events and the hindi movie songs shot here.Prominent songs shot here are Mein nikla gaddi leke from Gaddar and two three other songs. After that you are free to explore the theatre viz. its stage, balcony and VIP seats. It is normally less crowded, so you can enjoy your fullest. You can also enjoy any live performance if in your touring time any such event is happening.

The structure and story of this theatre was intriguing, enhanced by the May historical photos that painted a picture of Shimla’s colonial past.

Really lovely little theatre which still puts on performances. Very cosy and sympathetically refurbished. Lots of old photos of casts from plays gone by, many have been autographed. 20-30 mins well spent.

It is located on the lower side of the Mall Road and can be missed very easily. The entrance fee is Rs. 10/- only and a guide takes you thru in and gives you a brief history of this iconic structure.
Its difficult to believe that this theatre is over a 100 years old and it is indeed a architectural marvel. And to our pleasant surprise the whole structure is very well maintained. A must visit place

The theatre , built on the style of Victorian theatres in the UK has been beautifully and sympathetically renovated. The ceiling arches to the back of the theatre, making the acoustics excellent. Every details including the colours and fabric replicate the original. In the top floor there are lovely historical photos from the original theatre and before and after photos following the renovation.

Breath taking

Located in the former summer capital of India, the Gaiety theatre is not very huge, has a limited seating capacity, but it is oh so beautiful! It is grand and royal. Being in this place takes you to a different era.

The famous song 'Main nikla, Gaddi leke', from the movie Gadar was shot in the Gaiety theatre and is a major reference point for Indians. The beauty, performances and the ambiance of the theatre have kept the cultural tradition of Shimla alive.

A truly magnificent architectural and cultural marvel, the Gaiety theatre is not frequented by tourists who are mostly interested in the weather of the place but do not miss it whenever you are in Shimla. A must-visit for sure!
