If you want to enjoy the real beauty of the Himalyas than never forget to board Kalka Shimla Railways which runs from Kalka to Shimla. A broad Guage route of the indian railways. Unforgettable memory. Best experience.

My wife and I took the Toy Train (Himalayan Queen) at the end of a visit to Shimla. The whole line is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is well worth taking a trip on the train. The train is a narrow gauge and being old, is pretty basic. However the journey is fun and the views on a clear... More

While visiting Shimla, once everyone should go by this train from Kalka to Shimla or Shimla to Kalka to view the deep valley surrounding the track of railway. All the in between railway stations are very neat & clean. Hilly Lighting View in the night while coming from Shimla to Kalka is very good.

Its an example of perfect engineering... Railway stations are well maintained and neat. I took my camera and couldn't resist to click..... More

A 4 hour journey, up from Kala to Shimla on uncomfortable seats in a small crowded carriage. The journey was slow, with no information on lengths of stops for breaks. Several times the train started with passengers still stretching their legs on the platform. On the plus side the views as we ascended were remarkable.

This train excites you only for the first couple of hours...after that it tends to exhaust the body..himalayan queen is pretty uncomfortable for such a long journey...shivalik is much better..
