Plan a little walk by yourself, tracing the colonial architectural lineage of the University of Madras. The buildings are spread over the city, so look out for the most speactacular one close to Marina Beach. The famous Senate House is also a part of this campus, built in the Indo-Saracenic style with Byzantine and European architectural features. Other places to look out for British architecture are Ice House, Vivekananda Museum, High Court, War Memorial and the Parrys area. If you are a photography enthusiast, this is going to be even more satisfying.

Visit it for the building style

Though this is an educational institution, i like it because of its architecture. Old buildings built in the colonial style.. long walkways.. high ceiling and cool interiors..

Robert Chisholm's Senate House is breathtaking from the outside. Walk inside (no-one stopped me) and a desolate picture of an interior populated only by birds opens up. Other Indo-saracenic buildings to visit (I hired a tuk tuk for a morning for 800 rupees and did a round trip) are the railway station, Ripon Building, Victoria Hall and Bharat Insurance Building

Madras University is one of the oldest universities of Asia. The place is opposite to the Marina Beach. The campus has loads of colonial era red brick buildings. Special mention to the Senate House which is designed in Indo-Sarcenic architectures which blends both native indian along with persian(mughal) architecture.

Good University. Lots of Educational courses available. Most of the colleges are affiliated to Madras University. Best In-campus placements for campus students.

Located just opposite to the marina beach, this University is a testimony to the architectural influence of the British Rule. The place covers a vast area with beautiful buildings and trees. The sad part is that they are not much well maintained.

Having been a student of this once prestigious University, it is sad to see the poor upkeep of these amazing heritage buildings. Unfortunately, not many in the University's administration can explain/answer specific questions about the legacy of these grand structures. Just a ice place to visit, if you happen to be in Marina Beach.
