Samten Choling Buddhist Monastery, often referred as the Ghoom Monastery, is located at Ghoom near Darjeeling. At the entrance of the Monastery, there is a big gate having a square arch. From the gate, the main Monastery building which has a white body and a golden top, is shown. The main attraction of this Monastery is the big statue of... More

Ghoom Monastery is an old monastery located at Ghoom near Ghoom Rail Station. We visited this place at 6:30 am on our return path from Tiger Hills. Inside the Monastery there is a big statue of Goutam Buddha. Interior decorations of Ghoom Monastery are beautiful. The place is overcrowded and full of local hawkers selling woolen cloths and other gift... More

Its one of the oldest tibetan Buddhist monasteries you would find in darjeeling, yet very well maintained. The golden look of the outside is very appealing. Its situated just downhill from the ghoom station. They charge you for photography or videography inside the monastery premises. Very well maintained. Worth a visit.

Buddhist monarchs were chanting their morning prayers. Waah ..... nice soothing ambience. The most interesting thing was the place is small , but... More

If you've never seen a monastery, by all means go - I overheard another guest saying how wonderful it was. But, if you've seen some of the monasteries in, say, Myanmar, Ghum's is un-exceptional, quiet small and under-funded...

This monastery lies at the heart of Ghoom and the entrance way does not reveal the full splendor of what is contained inside. One a fine day, the courtyard of the monastery has a magnificent view of the mountain ranges. For pilgrims, there is a gompa and you are able to do kora here. The monks who reside here are... More

A bright and cheery monastery in a peaceful location. The top temple is a gloriously evocative and spiritual place. Well worth the trek.
