A gem of engineering history -- still fully functional -- about 60 km. I did not ride it but saw the trains and some stations. One or two shops incl Oxford bookshop, were selling a model of the engine for Rs. 5500/-. Beautiful souvenir. Unfortunately postponed buying and then it was gone. Should get restocked.

Anyone visiting Darjeeling should by default add this toy train journey in there travel. This is the unesco world heritage site. Make sure to talk to driver of the train he will give you all the information about this.

We took the tour with this world-heritage-site toy train. It looks really beautiful and it is amazing to see how the trains are still running. However, for those whoe are not completly fascinated by the train itself it should be more than sufficient to see the train pass from outside. A trip in the train is not really required. The... There are two kinds of joy rides.A Deisal Loco ride and a Steam Loco ride. We took a Steam engine ride which looks and sounds more authentic on the Darjeeling Himalyan Railway from Darjeeling to Ghum and back to Darjeeling. The station is about 2 kms from the main town and one can either hire a car or share a car... - it is heritage train declared by UNESCO. -people who hv not travelled by steam engine must travel once for lifetime. Steam engine is made of 1881. -people who have travelled on Steam Engine in d past, it is not worth for them because cost of d ticket per person is very expensive Rs 1300 for a journey of about... grossly overrated this is an experience for those making amends for corporate or other sins. Badly maintained, with aged tracks and a deary, noisy trip down from Darjeeling station to Kerseong, a gruelling 3 hour journey, best avoided. if you want to experience the train just so that you can truthfully mention it in your memoirs, then just take the... Truly an experience to remember for the rest of your life.Other than the poorly maintained infrastructure, the journey from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling is a thing to cherish all through your life.Mesmerising views of lush green forests, tea gardens and misty mountain ranges will never let you forget it.Fairs have been raised 3 to 4 fold, but, just travel for once. It'll surely... The train journey was enjoyable but the carriage quality was poorly maintained. Considering the high cost of tickets , there is no signs of reinvestment to maintain this World Heritage site. The station facilities were poor especially the toilets. We had misty weather so lacked any view. The journey is interesting for seeing the world go by. The museum needs... More

We booked the joy ride from IRCTC website for steam engine (use from "Darjeeling" to "To Darjeeling" to book tickets on IRCTC) which runs at regular intervals from Darjeeling station to Ghum station. The train tickets are approx INR 1300 per person for a 2 hour ride. Personally, it wasn't worth the money. The steam train gives a feeling of... More
