Description:

The Happy Valley Tea Estate caresses the misty hills of Darjeeling,...

The Happy Valley Tea Estate caresses the misty hills of Darjeeling, overlooking the fertile Himalayan foothills. Established in 1854, its history is closely entwined with the origins and cultivation of Darjeeling tea. This garden, located in the town of Darjeeling, is home to spectacularly lush fields, endowed with a natural, breath taking charm. At Happy Valley respect for nature is expressed through the organic and bio-dynamic method of farming.

Happy Valley invites you to immerse yourself in the culture, history and tradition of the region by witnessing the process by which fresh tea leaves are withered, rolled, fermented, dried, sorted and graded to produce a variety of teas; the traditional black tea, green tea and the exquisite speciality teas.

A guided tour of the Happy Valley tea factory offers visitors a glimpse of the fascinating process of manufacturing tea. The tea tasting session, curated for first-timers, is conducted at the end of the tour, where one can discover the legendary flavour of Happy Valley organic Darjeeling teas.

Happy Valley teas are available in retail packs at the factory boutique for sale.

Not well organized for tourists. The "tour" takes about 10 minutes. You can visit their shop and purchase tea samples. I have visited much more scenic and better organized tea estates.

Has to do down as one of the worst tours I have ever taken. They don't even really let you taste tea. They present four bowls of tea and give you a teaspoon of each one. Even after I purchased a pack of tea, I couldn't get them to give me a cup. This trip is simply not worth your... More

This small factory allows the visitors to come and see how the different varieties of darjeeling tea is produced. Unfortunately we came in the beginning of march - one week before the tea production started - so we had to use our imagination while the friendly woman explained the processes in the small factory of the machines which were not... The explanation of the manufacturing process was very well done, and the guide was good at explaining the differences between different types of tea. However, the tea tasting was underwhelming: I was in a group with two other people and we were given four teas to taste: a green, first flush and second flush blacks, and a flavored tea. The... We were able to witness the process of tea making, from the time that the leaves are plucked till they are made ready for tasting. Great experience.

Huge lovely green tea valley estate. We opted for the in-hour tour guide. They explained how tea leaf is chosen to how tea is packed and the different types of tea leaves made into tea powder. I shopped a lot of diff variety of tea bags and packed them as gifts too. the staff were all very friendly.

The tour is interesting as is the tea tasting but to me wandering around the tea gardens afterwards was great. The first flush starts in Mid March. Would be good to see the tea plantation in action.
