HMI is an interesting museum of Mountaineering which preserves and speaks about old mountaineering expeditions especially about Mount Everest Expedition by Sir E Hillary and Tenzing Norgay since early 20th century. This is a must visit place for Mountaineers and Trekkers.

We walked through Darjeeling to this exhibition which is on the same site as the zoo. The exhibition and museum is very interesting, holding masses of equipment and historical detail.

If you want to know trekking and Tenzing Norgay. The museum has a very good collection. If you love trekking, this institute will help you to develop your skills to conquer the greatest heights. I am happy watching them only :)

The institute was next to the mountaineer museum, it has all the equipment used for trekking and mountaineering. There are lots of pictures and statues made to understand the field better.

The institute was established with Mr. Tenzing Norgay, with the objective of imparting the knowledge of the explorers who climbed Everest.

The entry fee is Rs. 50 for both HMI and the Zoo packed together. Camera fee is Rs. 10. The time depends on you. For ourselves, it took more than 3 hours to visit the two. Also there is a Natural History Museum in the zoo... More
