I haven't been inside as unfortunately it was closed when I went there. The outside looks really nice.

Beautiful art and workmanship, one of those places you can leave Olinda without seeing. Like the cathedral downtown, the size is deceiving. The architecture and splendor are equal to those in europe.

Very well preserved gem of Brazilian history. Not only a beautiful historical church, with priceless art and beauty, but also the location of the first Brazilian law school, alma mater to many great figures of this country's history.

Unique experience! I went there with my American family and right away we found a tour guide from the street. His name is Andre and he was very nice and explained all the histories behind every wall and tile inside the church. We even got lucky and met and mong seating on the window and he told us they can't... More

Just imagin that the gold plated altar was dismounted and shown at Guggenheim New York... That is the astonishing quality that you can expect to see. This church has plenty of history and anecdotics... The Cross visible from the outside court through the windows, for the slavery to see and follow mass at the time they where not allowed in...... This church has a very impressive history. If you have the chance hire a guide to hear Olinda's history. That is the best way to do a walking tour in the whole city. This church has a beautiful altar and heavy doors. The wall of this church are very thick and very well done. It is a very very old... More

This is an amazing example of Rococo art of the 1780s in tribute to St. Benedict. of the Benedictine Order. The first Benedictine monks arrived in 1582 and as early as that sounds, they were actually the last on the scene, after the Jesuits, the Carmelites, and the Franciscans. This chapel evolved over time, but it's drawing card is the... More
