First of all, get educational backgrounds of the church. Later, step on the top of church to have open wild views. Recife is just around corner. Costal line. Sea. Beach. What a day!

A very beautiful old church. Go inside. Took a cab to to the top of the hill to see this amazing church and you should walk down the hill after looking at the fantastic views from the top. There are shops with incredible paintings on display. Lots of items native to Brazil to bring back home at very reasonable prices.

Get a guide, you will miss a lot of all just walking alone. If you don´t speak Portuguese I don't know how easy will be to find an English speaking guide. This Cathedral is just one of the many you should visit, unfortunately 3 or 4 of them are closed for Restoration, shame on the local politics that don't care... More

Olinda is such a great place to visit - it has the recent history of Pernambuco as an entry place for the Spanish and the Dutch. This cathedral is worth visiting although you shouldn't expect the greatness of rich catholic European cathedrals... it is devotion that counts in the churches in Brasil. Very characteristic architecture for the Spanish and Portugese.

I took the bus from Recife to Olinda. A fluent English speaking lady at the Olinda Tourist office provided me with a map and tips. No need of a guide. The road to the Cathedral has many attractive old colonial buildings. The church is well maintained over the years and it deserves a visit. Panoramic vistas for the hungry photographer.... More

Olinda is the ancient capital of Brazil, but is now only a sleepy suburb of the bustling city of Recife. Maybe that is why the Cathedral has little stature anymore. Very simple, both inside and outside. What is beautiful is the view from the back of the Cathedral which is perched high on the hill. The city beneath unfolds itself,... More

Olinda is a very old and historic city. You will see lots of beautiful places, churches, craft stores and much more interesting things. The Se church is located on a very strategic place. The view from there is fantastic. You will see Where Recife city meets Olinda city and also the inlet where the river meets the ocean. On the... More
