I've only been to two forts, one 1/3 scale replica of a fort, two sites where forts once stood, and a national historic battleground, so I'm no expert on the subject of forts. In my opinion, Fort Gaines was the most interesting, informative and well...More

The whole family enjoyed exploring the fort. The blacksmith was on site that day too. You can easily spend 2-3 hours here.

Fort Gaines was not nearly as crowded as Fort Morgan, but certainly just as interesting. The walking tour was very well marked and so informative. The museum was excellent, even though it was small. Again, wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.

This old Civil War Fort is a very well preserved artifact and if you want to see how it protected Mobile and the surrounding area you will here. It played a very strategic part in the war and is more well known for what happened...More

A shame there is a fee to go in here, given it isn't a very big town. Still an interesting place from outside the grounds and the waterfront area surrounding the fort.
