About
ENCORE MELAKA . IMPRESSION SERIES is an immersive performance with a series of untold stories of Melaka, which reflects a society that embraces diversity and inclusiveness. The 70-minute long mega show recounts the long-forgotten tales: stories of the early voyagers, legacy of Cheng Ho’s diplomatic mission, indigenous settlement and cross-cultural encounters such as the Baba Nyonya. Expect to see astounding projection mapping, intricate theatre props and costumes, and experience first in Southeast Asia, 360-degree rotating audience platform facing a 240-meter-long stage with multiple stages. The inclusiveness of Melaka is expressed through the blend of traditional and contemporary dance performed by 200 Malaysian performers. Directed by Wang Chaoge, the creative force behind the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremony, Encore Melaka is the newest offering from China’s iconic Impression Series.

Amazing show to get in touch with the history of melaka.

A nice show to get in touch with the history of melaka. We booked it spontanously a day before in Dez 2019 and got there by GRAB. We returned to our hotel with one of the free busses.

The show is absolutely amazing!

Like the unique structure there, never thought Malaysia will have such a unique buildings. But it's more recommend to visit during night time as all pretty lights will on.

A wonderful experience

One of the most amazing visits to the theatre I have ever seen. It was a stunning colourful performance.

I loved it so much that I sat there at the end and just wanted it to start again straight away. The story of Malaysia encapsulated in under 2 hours.

Interesting and entertaining....however, there's room for improvement

Bought the tickets online direct from their official website....promotional offer of buy 2 get 1 free. Thank you Encore Melaka.

First impression when I entered the theatre was one of awe. Seats were comfortable, and the screen was wide. The stage seemed normal by most standards.

The attendants were very helpful.....from verifying and printing our tickets, to giving the necessary instructions, to ushering us to our seats....right till the end of the show, they were polite and always around to help us out with anything. Kudos!

Now...the performance. I must say, I was mighty impressed with the 360 degree rotating audience platform and state of the art technology for their screen displays.
I also enjoyed immensely the 1st, 2nd and 3rd scenes.....about how it all began with King Parameswara, the arrival of Admiral Cheng Ho from China, and the delightful Nyonya wedding plus a show on the Peranakan culture. The beat of the drums in scene 2 gave me goosebumps and the colorful display of Peranakan culture in Scene 3 was entertaining. The visuals for Scene 1 was just awesome.
But then, I got lost in scenes 4, 5 and 6......although I could get the message from the leaflet given to me, the performance during those scenes failed to reach out to me and I couldn't quite figure out the mumbo jumbo that was going on stage in front of me. Too bad!
The finale was really nice...I enjoyed every moment of it, and although there were not many of us at that time....we did show our appreciation in the best way possible.

Also, I was pretty disappointed that the performance left out a huge chunk of history during the Portuguese and Dutch rule. These periods of Portuguese and Dutch rule actually shaped a lot of what Melaka is today...and I feel should be included in the vibrant showcase of it's history and culture.

In summary, the show was entertaining in it's own unique way...but of course, can be better. Try engaging a Malaysian as the theatre's Creative Director, just my 2 Sen's worth....it might just work.

Non-perfomance visit

Nice modern building on it's own, though if you don't go there for a performance it's not very exciting. On the other hand, I hear the performances are great -

Such a refreshing 'sightseeing' option. Very interesting for us non-Malaysians, I learned a lot about the history and culture of Melaka.

New Photo Destination
Jan 2020 • Friends
I've been here once not to enjoy the theater or the show but just to take picture at the exterior part of Melaka's recent new landmark.

We heard people come here not only to enjoy shows at this theater but also taking picture of its unique exterior design. So we came here to just take pics. It turns out that the pics are nice.

It's around 10 minutes drive from the old town of Melaka. No admission fee to just take photos at the exterior.

impressive visual experience made possible by start of the art technology

impressive visual experience made possible by start of the art technology. we went for their 70 minute show. the actors were all passionate. kudos and well done.

It would have been better if the plot is improved upon for continuity. not all stories flow smoothly from one to another. the English translation could be improved as well.
