Take a journey into Old Malacca within our walls. Step through the doors and visit a fine example of a late 18th century two-storey building. “No 8” houses a permanent exhibit on the conservation and restoration process of the building, as well as a short history of early shophouse and Dutch hybrid domestic architecture. The house is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10:30am to 4pm. No entrance fee; but donations are welcome.

We just walked past it. We tried to go in but it was Friday and I guess at that time it was closed. From the outside it wasn't very impressive. There was also very little information on what there was actually to see inside.

Loads of exhibits, hardly any labelled, even fewer labelled in English. Our guide was very well informed but spoke rapidly and rather softly, so was a bit hard to follow.

This free attraction is a great illustration of the way the original shophouses were configured and used. The guide who was manning the place was very knowledgeable and had a good balance between telling and letting us explore. You will probably spend less than an...More

The house just looks empty inside with some English language info boards to those of us with limited architectural knowledge. But get the guardian talking and you can be richly informed of the hows and whys of the construction, and the reason the house is...More

Great example of how historic buildings can be preserved if people are willing to take the time, effort (and some money). The guide explains how this modest shop / house, built during the Dutch era, has recently been restored using original materials and techniques. Sad...More

This is a modest trader's house and shop which has been restored to its original condition. As such it shows a much more realistic view of old Malacca than the other museums in town. There is not too much 'stuff' to see, but the guide,...More

Shirley our guide quickly established that we understood English and then whisked us around this wonderful Chinese merchant establishment with an informative commentary and a sense of humour . Akin to the Florentine merchants, business was done on the ground floor . The shop front...More

A small, impeccably restored shop house. It would take just a few minutes to walk around, but we probably stayed for an hour talking to the interpreter. He was great. Lots of insights that added much to our visit to Melaka overall.
