- Nur MuhamadSungai Petani, Malaysia816 contributionsInteractive and Lots of AnimalThere are tramp transportation to move around the zoo with guidance. But please alert, the price of food/drinks inside here is bit expensive and not many choice. Better to eat first before enter here. The advantages is you can feed these animal(girafe, elephant, etc) by paying certain of amount to the operator at the cages, they will provide you with some animal foods. Reminder, bring insects repellant if you want to walk from animal cage to animal cage. Lots of mosquito. There will be free animal show (bird) at certain time inside the zoo, refer the time schedule at counter.Visited July 2018Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 September 2018

The dinosaur adventure display is really well done and covers a much larger area than we expected.
The animal displays are just ok, some exhibits vacant, but there is an Orangutan so you dont have to go to Borneo to see one.
About a 25 minute drive from the old city, no public transport so you have to book a ride with Grab.

A lot of improvements have been made. There's new section of Dinosaur parks with an area about 5 acres. It's so big. I enjoyed it so much as well as my 6 year old brother. He didn't get bored at all. I got the chance to feed giraffe and cow for free. Do come early in the morning, if you want to experience it. Overall, very clean and enjoyable. I'm soooo happy and it's an unforgettable moments for me.

So the second largest zoo I Malaysia, and according to some sites the best one too.. NO! The zoo looked like it was abandoned and could have used a makeover 20 years ago.. A lot of the exhibits were closed an many of those opened only 1 of each animal presented.
So the recommendation is NOT to visit! Save the money, even though it is considerably cheap.. But now I know why

Is Visit Melaka 2019 year....
I made a family visit to Melaka past weekend. Brought my daughter that to Malacca Zoo. After the visit, my little daughter told me the Zoo is not nice to visit for. She asked my why so many section(s) were closed? She asked me why all the animals are so lonely? And i guess this mean... Malacca Zoo do not attract my daughter to go there once more.
For myself, the Zoo has great pottential to be developed, managed and expanded since now is Visit Melaka 2019 (by the way the Zoo improvement shall be done before 2019 instead). (1) Types of animals - still bearable.... but gotta improve it too, (2) Other facilities, such as toilet - crazily rotten and dirty, (3) Food & Beverage - still not sufficient, (4) Shows - Limited and no attraction still, (5) Tram - more interative necessary (too boring)
Overall, without further improvement made fast, it will not be one of the "Must GO" for Visit Melaka 2019

Grass over grown. Look like abandon park. Worry snake might wonder around the walking area or toilet. Lack of animals. Many empty dens.
Only 1 or 2 stalls inside selling crap food. Many stalls closed down.
Overall the park looked unsafe.... visiting the toilet can be eerie.
Got some insect bites on legs and arm. Just wanted to end the visit fast and no longer feel adventures to discover more there.

I advice to go there at the night. Since this place is romantic at night with a tram ride and animals in relaxed mood. I prefer to have a brisk walk in the dark to goaround there and its really an entertainment.

I am not sure about renting personal buggy. I took the public buggy train for free and i went for the night safari not day. At night they have shows around 9pm for about 30mins. U can tour the place before or after the show. Not much can be seen but if u ever wonder why the big cats are sleeping when u saw them at the regular you, u may appreciate them more at night
