Billed as. A quaint traditional village - totally lackluster. It’s a housing estate for Malays only supposedly upon traditional lines, but there were a number of large modern concrete houses visible albeit they had concrete decoration. Some had business and some were Homestay accomodation, the balance was private. The museum was shut. 10 minute walk around at best.

Tried to visit three times.
No information on opening times displayed. Neighbour said 11am, went back still not open.
Online to says open 9am and another site says 11am. We called back later in another day still no success. Good luck local area is interesting to see regardless.

This is a traditional Malay kampung located within the city, interesting for a stroll around, best way to go here is by doing the riverwalk, it's a few miles but very beautiful and very much worth it!

Kampung Morten or simply Morten Village is a historical traditional Malay village in the city which is situated near the Malacca River. It is named after a British land revenue collector, Frederick Joseph Morten during the British Malaya. Here is where tourist can get a taste of the local culture. Take the river cruise at night to see lights lighting the village. There is also a local house turned into a museum located inside the village. For those who want to get a better idea, do the village walking tour. My husband and I rented a motorcycle to get around the village because it's easier. To enter the village is free.

A very informative exploration of houses, gardens and residents.
At least as good as the Baba and Nyonya house, and much more personalised.
Currently only on Saturdays at 5pm.
Check at the tourist office in town for any updates.
The tour is nominally free, but a generous tip is appropriate.
Our excellent enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide was called Mimi.

It's a residential area well decorated with lights, displaying architecture fusion as traditional houses in the midst of city centre. Located beside Malacca river. You will always see mesmerizing decorating lights on river cruise boats, trees, houses, bridge, along the river. Good spot for night walk and photo shooting.

Ask at Tourist Information and they will tell you about the free tours available. We did 2, one of which was Kampung Morton which lasted 1.5hrs and starts at 5pm in the village. We had a charming and knowledgeable guide. She took us through the streets and had permission to enter gardens to show us local herbs and produce growing. We were told about the construction of a typical Malay house and was able to go inside a house- pre arranged by the guide with the resident. She showed us a workspace of a local craftsman who makes model houses ( these are not for sale so it’s not a promotional trip trying to part you from your cash) and finally we ended at the local street restaurant who reputedly sells the best Nasi Lemak around. We did tip our guide but this is an interesting tour and represents great value. I can’t find it itemised separately on Trip Advisor but go to the tourist office.

Older style housing surrounded by high rise. Nice local neighbourhood in a handy central location for tourists. The river winds around on one side and at night there is a monorail making circuits of the estate

Really lovely to walk to along the river, and lots of pride and care in the residences of Kampung Morten. There are some really lovely homes and the people kind.
