Good museum
Dec 2020
Good assortment of artifacts from the Sultanate, Colonial up to Japanese Occupation. The place is under minor renovation when we went but still plenty to see.

Don’t waste your time

Its a waste of time visiting this place. History is distorted and does not reflect the exact local history.

City of Museums
Oct 2019 • Couples
This was a great museum in a city full of them, all close together. Has beautiful paintings of all famous scenes from Melaka history, they should have a shrine for the painters as they were great. The various models of Melaka after different occupations were really well done and interesting, not the tired old worn out models you usually see. Worth several hours having a look.

If you're already in Melaka, this is a must do
Sep 2019 • Business
Start your day here. I really wouldn't make a special trip to Melaka just to see this museum but if you're already here, this museum is worth your time. 10:30am and 2:30pm free English tours. Gives you history of Melaka from the founding through the various colonizers. You get access to a lot of other museums with your ticket so you could spend half a day seeing everything.

Historical museum in a historical building
Jul 2019
This history museum is located inside the Stadthuys. It contains exhibits from the Malay Sultanate through the Portuguese, Dutch, British and Japanese colonization periods to Independent Malaysia. It also concentrates on the different ethnic groups that made up Melaka – Chinese, Indian, Peranakan, Chitty, Malay, Portuguese, etc. The Museum contains a cross-section of a Malay house, embroidered fabrics, models of Melaka’s township and how it was settled and ornate feathered bird-headed boats as well as lots of mannequins and dioramas. There is a lot to take in and I found much blurred together afterwards, but it did give a picture of the variety that made up Melaka’s history and people. The ticket to this museum allows you to see more of the Stadthuys and includes four other museums.

Must Visit in Melaka
May 2018 • Friends
Very close from Melaka River Cruise, you can enjoy both inside and outside of the museum, it was in one are with Red Building (or might Red Building part of this museum). The museum tells so much story about Portuguese, Dutch, etc. when they come to Malaysia.

A Comprehensive Coverage of Malacca’s History
Mar 2019
This is a pretty thorough and well laid out museum of Malacca’s history. It starts well before the Portuguese arrived, deals with their loss to the Dutch followed by the takeover by the British. The three years where Japan tried to impose their order on Melacca is also covered along with the independence that followed not long after the cessation of hostilities of World War II.

It has a fascinating section on local wedding traditions and in what may not seem like a big thing, but is huge in Melacca, there are clean public bathrooms. Entry is 10 ringgits, so almost chump change, and its mostly air conditioned.

GUIDED WALK AT HISTORY AND ETHNOGRAPHY MUSEUM
Feb 2019 • Solo
When I visit Melaka, I will visit the History Museum. I always visit either on Saturday or Sunday as the museum provide free guide tour. Last week, I manage to follow a guided tour by Mr Eddie Chua. Beside him, there is also Mr Lingam and Ms Syamimi. Every guide had his or her way to tell the story. They are good storyteller. The guided walk is on Saturday and Sunday at 10.30am and 2.30pm.
