Most don't realize it, but, the first Mardi Gras WAS actually held in Mobile, not New Orleans-----therefore, Mobile is truly the "birthplace" of Mardi Gras as it is known in the USA. This museum has numerous historical items and displays relative to the Mardi Gras tradition in Mobile. It is worthwhile if you are interested in this type of history.... More

The museum guide gave us an informative and entertaining tour of the museum. There were lots of fun insights in to Mobile's Mardi Gras. If you do any sewing at all, the costumes will amaze you. They will amaze you even if you don't sew.

Frienly informative staff. Good history of carnival and it's place in Mobile's society and history. The tour was very informative and the guide was very patient and answered questions. Kid frendly but lots of stairs.

We spent about a little over an hour with our animated guide - Craig Roberts. He told us all about the costumes, float replicas, over fourteen galleries, several videos, and the children's dress up area.

We spent a lovely afternoon learning about the history of Mobile Mardi Gras. Beautiful outfits worn by past queens and kings. Much more formal than beads and floats.
