Nanxiangs gardens are always quiet and peaceful, so you can actually get a feel for what the gardens were originally like. They're beautiful and well maintained. Theres an elderly man who speaks some English who volunteers in the tearoom. Hes really lovely.

Located in Nanxiang ancient town this temple has a lot to offer. Under the temple are many memorials in a maze of rooms accessible from the back of the temple and the bell tower. The bell tower its self gives you good views over the ancient town and temple grounds. The temple is in keeping with others in Shanghai but,... More

This temple is located in Nanxiang Ancient Town which is an easy metro ride on Line 11 from the city (see separate entry for full details). The entry is Y8 and you get to go up a tower, see some Buddha statues and when I was there I could watch some chanting. It is all very relaxing.
