Definitely worth a visit if you're not going to other canal towns

Lovely little town to get a sense of the canal towns around Shanghai if you don't have time to leave Shanghai. Within easy walking distance of qibao metro (with the usual malls and apartment blocks) the old town (qibao lao jie) is quaint and lovely. As a bonus there is also a Buddhist temple along the canal that was empty... More

Great water town if you're compressed for time and have limited stay in Shanghai. It may not be the best water town compared to other bigger proper ones eg. Zhujiajiao but I find Qibao Water Town is convenient to access via short walk from its Metro station - Qibao. Mind you, the complexes are rather small and can be insanely... More

This is my mum's favorite place to visit, every time when I go back hometown, we go that town for fun. There are so many food there and the prices are cheap.

Good to spend an hour in Qibao Ancient Town as it's on the same route to visit Zhujiajiao Water Town. This place is less crowded but just as commercialized. Good stop to view the architecture and surrounding areas.

I was excited to head to Qibao but learned to late that I was there in a public holiday - insane crowds!! Some neat handicraft stores but nothing too special. I was very excited for the shadow puppet museum but found out they only do shadow puppet performances on Saturday afternoons.

Great Watertown place which is reachable by subway in less than 20min from downtown. Lots of people as all attractions in China but not westernized and so its a great chance to mingle with the locals. So much food and snacks to sample for very little money... due to the ease of reaching even for a short term visit in... More

I think this is a must do if you are visiting Shanghai. This is a metro ride away on line 10 - do that rather than taxi as the traffic is quite bad. The town itself is old and slightly downbeat looking but it is interesting to see how a water town would have operated. What is crazy is how... More

We visited in Chinese New Year on a hot day and it was incredibly crowded. The streets are quite small so it was uncomfortable looking at the shops and restaurants. The architecture and bridges were very beautiful however, and would probably be better when it's a bit quieter. Plenty of places to eat and the subway was a short walk... More

Another picturesque Old Town. Just like most of the other Old water towns, this place is beautiful with its rivers, bridges and Chinese architecture. Shopping is ideal for bargaining, and like other water towns, the earlier you go, he less crowded it will be. I would definitely visit again given the chance.

We went to this town which was quite amazing the items we were able to purchase there. Also to see all the little eating places. We had dumplings and a soup there which was great. We walked around for a while and then landed at a little corner shop that specialises in Dumplings. they were amazing. A very interesting place... More
