Store for everything.

Stayed close to the Carrefour and found the store had all we needed, from a great food supermarket to a shop to buy all sorts of things, including very small batteries. Has a good... read more

I've been to Carrefour outlets in many countries but this was one of a kind.... Crowded, chaotic and misorganized. First of all getting there.... Not many people know it exists, the taxi drivers had no idea, hotel reception and concierge had no idea. I told them where it was roughly, then the concierge found it on the Internet, wrote it... This store has a good range of food, wine, beers, toiletries and electronics. I can get my favourite pork crisps here and they have a good selection of stationary and electronics. I got a cheap mouse to replace my broken one so was very happy. A good value shop and usually you don't wait long at the registers.

This is atypical of the Carrefour stores in Shanghai, though it is located within the Cloud Nine mall, which makes it super convenient, especially with a subway station nearby. It has a pretty big imported foodstuff section, particularly if you go in for French madeleines, chocolates and other cookies. The produce section is not as good as, say, the Carrefour... More

for tourists or anyone new to Shanghai this supermarket can be a godsend seeing as it is in such an accessible place, however inside the place is really shabby with a very old fashioned layout and the airconditioning is never on. Not very comfortable in summer. If you go in the evenings or weekends it is very busy as well.... More

if you are in the neighbourhood and need anything - from apples to tv's - then perhaps carrefour is for you! the prices are generally good and you get the feeling that because it is a large french chain store that the quality and customer service has some basic standards. you can also avoid the crowds and hassles of local... After two days in Shanghai we came across Carrefour and it made us really happy because the convenience stores near our hotel offered very little and moreover, overpriced food. We could buy decent bread, butter, tomatoes etc., we got breakfast supplies for a few remaining days. Location is ok, but we could not find the store inside the shopping mall... More

We were so glad we found this place located in the basement levels of the Cloud 9 shopping mall. It is a two leveled store like a Woolworths or Coles (for my Australian friends). Honestly I have never shopped at a place so large for my food and household items. It offers fresh meats, seafood, dairy products, any fruit or... More

This Carrefour is more tired 1970's Walmart than cool French Hyperstore. Two levels, household and food, located in the basement of a quite chic mall on the Metro lines in the west side of Shanghai. The selection was poor by US/European standards but I don't know how it compares to other supermarkets in Shanghai. We had fun wandering around looking... More

Staying in Hongkou

Neighbourhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
