We found this cafe in just walking around Shanghai! The Sunday brunch is delicious and affordable, and must have the orange juice definitely freshly squeezed. Really a hidden treasure in Shanghai. Inside dining takes you back in time, the outdoor dinning is super cute and cozy!

Stroll in...marvel at the unchanged 19th century ambience and furniture and settle down upstairs for an afternoon high tea, which includes real Chinese tea of your choice and a 3 tier tray of little delights to go with it. We took the balcony overlooking the street and marvelled at all the new money and chauffeurs etc. milling around in the... More

Altough the correct name is "antique cafe" it is indeed wonderfull. Interior is packed with antique furniture well arranged. We find it very cosy and relaxing. Its. certanly cool enough but not like a fridge like in most places. There are fans to give you a breeze. The garden or terrace looked nice but we chose to sit inside. The... More

Be there, you will know and feel the atmosphere. This is the place you can be at the closest point to Old Shanghai. You can find antiques and old styled furnitures uniquely placed inside the two story histric house. Outside you can also enjoy cozy garden. During the daytime, enjoy afternoon tea, while you will see quite a different face... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
