The riverside walk along the Bund may be busy and crowded during the day, but with good reason - it's simply a must when in Shanghai for people-watching and getting a good feel for the city.

We enjoyed a number of leisurely strolls along the whole river promenade both daytime and at night. The panoramas are wonderful. On one side is the Bund with its fine architecture. But the chief attraction is the great river and the skyline across in Pudong. At all times the river is busy with ferries, laden barges and other commercial shipping.... More

Easy to see that there is 26 million people in this city. It did not seem that crowded and movement was quite easy.

To us, this is far better than the Bund for our walks. So clean and spacious and peaceful. Great for morning and even better in the late afternoon for the Sunset view of Old Puxi with all the Classic old Buildings of Shanghai. Highly recommended. Takes about 40 minutes for a full one. Way walk, though some parts are broken... More

Wonderful views of the city, especially in the evening when all the building are lit up. It was fun to walk along it and observe all the people getting their weding pictures taken.

A short walk from Ocean Hotel (and others). It really the best place to take in and photograph the Lights and the river traffic. Think light start going off 10 pm?

We walked from Indigo hotel to the Bund, it was bit of chilly but well worth it. The view is spectacular; the skyline in the Pudong area is an awesome sight. Every evening the light show is dazzling, even street in front of Bund is lined with lights that is mesmerizing.

I enjoyed the stroll along the river, just watching the boats and people. There were people selling trinkets and some beggars, but not an overwhelming number of either. My colleagues and I enjoyed tea at a bar situated along the river. Very pleasant experience.

Staying in The Bund

Neighbourhood Profile
The Bund
While there are certainly many other “bunds” in the world, “the Bund” refers to Shanghai’s famous waterfront. The area’s Gothic, Art Deco and Beaux Arts monoliths were built when it was part of the Shanghai International Settlement run by the British and Americans. The atmosphere of colonial-era luxury has endured over time and is now found in the five-star hotels, luxury brand boutiques and expensive restaurants that can be found within the historic buildings. A cultural center has built up away from the water and some of Shanghai’s best art galleries and museums are housed close to the Bund. Nighttime views of Pudong and the rest of the city also make for a great backdrop at the many rooftop clubs.
