This temple is amazing. The buildings are really old and still maintained by the Monks who are residents there. The Buddhas are huge and very ornate and quite amazing. There is so much to see and a must before its disappears amongst the new buildings around it.

This was an absolute find in the heart of a busy part of the city. A perfect bit of history surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the busy modern city. This is a perfect spot to step back in time while exploring the city. It was busy but comfortable to explore around. So many separate areas of worship with... More

Just saw the temple when we were on some other tour. Looked interesting. So visited next day. Entry was 50yuan. (thought it is bit high for a temple) It is located right next to Jing'an Temple sunway station. Do not waste money on taxi Temple architecture was interesting. Few people were smoking in the temple premises. Overall temple good. (smokers... More

This beautiful temple is in the middle of one of the busiest shopping streets with the Shanghai Tower next door so you can get some fabulous images of old and new Shanghai in the same photo.

It is a nice temple but you can skip it if you have limited time in the city. I was told that it was a must see and for me it was nice but not a must see. It is not near the tourist areas so we had to walk a lot (more than an hour to get to people's... More

Very beautiful and interesting place to visit. Opens early at 0730, and wasn't crowded around 8-830 when we got there. It's right next to the metro stop. Appx $14 usd for 2 people. The temple is stunning. Immaculately kept. The smell of incense greets you. The different rooms to enter with different dieties are to be treated with utmost reverence... More

The Jing'an Temple is situated close by Nanjing Road and is dwarfed by the surrounding sky scrapers. I guess the old and new together exemplify what Shanghai is all about. Entrance is 50RMB which is a bit steep. However it is a beautiful tranquil spot. The enormous Buddha statue is worth seeing alone.

Staying in Jing'an

Neighbourhood Profile
Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.
