This Chinese Buddhist Temple hosts two jade Buddha statues imported from Burma, along with many other cultural relics. It is a peaceful refuge from the modern bustle of Shanghai, where monks may be seen and heard conducting Buddhist ceremonies.

The temple premises is huge - there are several statues and idols of Buddha and monks chanting and devotees kneeling, but the actual Jade Buddha is not prominently displayed. It's quite far from the entrance and could quite easily be missed. The temple costs RMB...More

They were doing building work in the main square when we visited which detracted from the feel of the place. The ticket here was also twice as expensive as the other temples we visited and it's a bit off the beaten track. Jade Buddha was...More

This isn't a particularly old temple, but it houses the famous Jade carved buddha, although this is in a back temple, quite a long way from the main entrance. It's RMB20 to visit and photos are allowed everywhere except in the Jade Buddha gallery itself....More

Beautiful temple in the middle of Shanghai. The architecture is traditional and photography is allowed of everything except the jade Buddha. However, there were a lot of other beautiful deities you can photograph so don't let this deter you from visiting.

The Jade Buddha Temple is in the process of renovation. We did not get to "The GreatTreasure Hall" as it is being moved 20 metres backwards from it's present location, I believe - that is what the sign said. I did like "The Laughing Buddha"...More

It is unbelievable to see how this temple is in the middle of the city. Absolutely to ne seen, although not much spiritual. It is more a source of business than a really place to pray.

Keep about one hour time. It may be a good idea to just sit and relax. There are various forms of Buddha which are interesting to note. It will be good if you read a bit about the temple and visit. Will give a better... More
