This Chinese Buddhist Temple hosts two jade Buddha statues imported from Burma, along with many other cultural relics. It is a peaceful refuge from the modern bustle of Shanghai, where monks may be seen and heard conducting Buddhist ceremonies.

Inspired by Mahayana's Pure land, this temple is an example of Chan Buddhism, a distinguished school of Chinese Buddhism that originated in Tang Dynasty China. A form of Buddhism strongly influenced by Taoism. It was at that dynasty when emperors installed Buddhism as the new state religion but still have to satisfy the historic Taoist practices. Two most important statues... More

I really enjoyed my visit to the temple, I went here alone and found it really peaceful and had a great day here. I would definitely go back here if I am ever back in Singapore.

I had seen this temple listed in the guidebooks but had no idea it was so close to my apartment. We had previously visited Jingan Temple and much prefer this one. The entrance is 30 RMB and though it is a fairly newer temple is very well maintained. The white jade buddhas are beautiful. But is the room buddha room... More

We saw a fair few temples in China on our trip and this was one of the bigger and better ones. Be aware that once you pay the entrance fee there is a further entrance fee if you wish to also see the Jade Budda. Go early as this place is very popular with larger foreign tour groups.

This temple is really a complex of worship and meditation halls containing multiple buddha and boddhisatva statues many of which are beautifully coated in gold leaf. The central building contains the jade buddha located on its second floor. It is beautiful but to my taste the reclining boddhisatva (which is larger) is every bit as impressive. This is an active... The jade Buddha temple was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. We visited during Chinese New Year when it had many visitors who were praying and burning incense. The whole temple was decorated in beautiful ribbons and well worth the price of 20RNB p.p. The statues were incredible in size and design, and space was so clean... More

It sits in a side street in busy, noisy Shanghai and yet it has a certain tranquility despite the mobs of tourists and worshipers. The Buddha itself is admirable but so are the many other carvings and gods. The buildings are interesting too. Expect a lot of fellow visitors.

The complex is fairly large and people prey a lot, many monks. The jade Buddha is quite small and grayish (no photos allowed), upstairs in a small building. Easy to miss if you don’t pay attention.

Loved walking around this area and inside. It was interesting seeing the new residence mixed in . Monks were walking everywhere. Go and make sure you walk around the neighbourhood too it's fantastic.
