Wandering around the buildings is very atmospheric. There are some areas in need of a clean up. In an area with very little by way of old buildings these stand out and give you a good feeling for China's past. Worth a visit if you...More

Modern shopping mall in old-style dress. Fun for a walk-around but not for serious cultural shopping. Directly adjacent to Yu Garden, which is a terrific experience in late dynastic gardening and garden architecture.

It really feels like you stepped back in time when you visit old town in Shanghai. All the buildings are in the old pagoda style and mostly well preserved. The zig-zag bridge and pavilion is something to experience although it was very crowded on the...More

A great way to spend a couple of hours in Old Town. Buildings are interesting and all the usual tourist traps are nearby. We got here using the Hop on Hop off bus which is very useful for tourists to see city highlights.

The Old Town is touristy but entertaining. It's worth visiting for a couple of hours. Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant (serving Xiao Long Bao) is delicious and famous. We found that the best time to buy from the ground floor is in the morning - they...More

For a walk around 'Old Town' it's now very commercialized, too many big flashy jewellery and clothing stores, (I'm sure they were around in the 'OLD TOWN" one hundred plus years ago??????) There's great architecture and beauty through out, it's been a bit spoilt with...More

As part of our visit on Chinese New Year to Yu Garden (Yuyuan) we found this such a fantastic place. The history & well mantained buildings were wonderful.

The Old Town area of Shanghai is interesting because the architecture makes you feel like you are in China - a feeling that you don't get from the spectacular buildings, which could be in any modern city. However, the enormous number of jewelry and other...More

Shanghai’s original walls live on in the curve of the
streets that serve as the border to the old city. An
aerial view shows a clear circular outline and parts
of the original wall are preserved as monuments to the
ancient past. The main tourist attraction of Yuyuan
(which means Yu garden, though it is often redundantly
referred to as Yuyuan Garden) draws hordes of tourists
every day, but wandering the streets around the

I couldn't find this place! I walked all around where the location shows on this page, but there was no shopping area. There was one old looking building, but it was closed and dark at 7pm so I don't think that was it. Can someone give more specific location details?
