It's a great attraction with picnic areas for family. Good exhibits. Nice area for visiting. Used to be reasonable, but has joined the expensive things for foreign tourists to do in Costa Rica!

we have been there a few times and it is great to see the different thing you can find in Costa Rica. It is not the expensive and a nice walk seeing different sold life of Costa Rica. There is a great restaurant In the park or next to the park too. Parking is not a problem. Have a great... More

We spent a really enjoyable Sunday afternoon at Zoo Ave seeing a wide variety of animals and birds. This is a wildlife sanctuary and it tries to educate visitors about how humans can cause harm to animals, giving the backstory of some of the animals in its care. It's well laid out and maintained and provides the opportunity to see... More

While not a believer in animals/birds being helped captive in a Zoo, these are rescue animals/birds that would not have otherwise survived, many of which will be released back into the wild when they recover. While tragic that they need to be rescued, it was an opportunity to see the animals/birds in closer proximity than one would generally see them... More

We spent a morning touring the grounds and loved the place. Avery nice mix of birds, reptiles and mammals. We especially liked their rescue work with the animals. We even felt the lunch was very good.

I immediately fell in love with Zoo Ave. I totally did not expect this place to be so awesome. Sure it's not as big as some of the other zoo's I have been to, but there is definitely something about it. One of the first Animals you see is the famous Toucan Grecia. A few months prior to our visit... More

We loved the lizards and birds that were not in enclosures. This is not a zoo, it rescue/rehab center that has breeding and release programs. Easy to get to by local bus.

The thing I really appreciate about this 'zoo' is that it is actually working to reintroduce animals into the wild where they can. The notices at each cage provide an indication as to how many of a particular animal or bird they have successfully reared and returned to the wild. This is surely the point of such establishments. The vast... More

I was impressed by this rehab facility that houses non-releasable wildlife ambassadors in order to educate humans. The cages were clean and afforded resting/hiding places, along with plenty of appropriate enrichment for each species. The animals that were being rehabilitated were kept separately, away from non-essential human view. We were able to see many Costa Rican species while supporting a... More

I cannot deny that they hae overcome a great deal since I first went there (probably 20 years ago), but it is still a Zoo, which has no other option but to watch the animals. No petting, no restaurants inside, I don´t know... Average.
