At Arenal Natura Ecological Park you will experience the natural world in a whole new way, where beautiful frogs, birds, reptiles, and their natural habitats will have the starring role. Arenal Natura is a private Biological Station, where we are concerned at the conservation of habitats, as well as reserach and reproduction of amphibians and reptiles, many of these listed as endangered species by CITES. We are located in a section of the tropical rainforest, at the base of the Arenal Volcano, home to a large quantity of species which, with the help of our guides, will give you a new way to view and enjoy these impressive, complex worlds.

This is a small preserve run completely on donations at which the tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and completely genuine in his care for the landscape of his country. Our tour was not cookie-cutter, but went in the direction of our questions and at the pace of our interests.

Our guide, Emanuel, was excellent and was really passionate and knowledgable about this place and the creatures there. It was very informative and interesting. It is a conservation project and aims to try to rehabilitate some caiman and crocodiles to be released back into the wild if possible. So they are doing good work and you can see they really... We did this as the third hike of the day. Our tour guide was great and pointed out all of the things and gave great history of the Arenal eruptions. The hike up the lava field steps was a challenge and I recommend good footwear and a hiking stick which they provide at the trail start. As soon as we... More

The guide was good and helped us to get really nice pictures. They are under construction and the guide said the turtles and butterflies area were closed. We only saw the snakes, frogs, and 4 crocodiles.

Our tour guide Emmanuel was very friendly and knowledgeable, and we had an amazing time as a result. We saw all kinds of very cool animals up close, and got some great pictures as an extra plus. The entire facility is dedicated to conservation and the cause is definitely one to support. We will return again on our next trip... More

We had a great tour led by Emmanuel. He is obviously pationate and knowledgeable about all the reptiles. Not only did he show us the reptiles behind the glass, he also spotted a red eyed tree frog an eyelash viper right off the path.

We had such a fabulous time on this tour. Our guide, Immanuel was very friendly and very knowledgeable. He exemplified the Pura Vida mantra of Costa Rica. Enjoyed seeing the crocs, snakes (behind glass, which is what you want), frogs, "Jesus Christ lizard", and other things. Small park. They do it well. Worth a visit.

Overstated brochure, methinks. Many of the frogs and snakes were behind glass; the butterfly garden was under construction and seemed to have been so for a year or so; saw no birds, but these were probably all at our hotel next door; 3 crocs, one of which had bottom jaw broken off, which is why he cannot go back to... To start off with... our last day in Costa Rica, we told my son we could do anything he wanted. His immediate request to do, for the second time, the night hike at the Ecological park. So this review is really for two separate visits. We obviously loved it each time! I've included some photos too. You'll start out with... More

Easy walk to the bottom of the Volcano that gets a little steeper (steps and rocks) at the end. On a clear day: what a view! One side is the volcano, the other side is Lake Arenal; especially gorgeous at sunset. Actually reminded me of Lake Garda in Italy. Worth every penny! Go!
