Water was quite warm, not Caribbean but likely low to mid 70's. If there is a swell the breakers tend to plunge so if it is rough not for kids or those who are not strong swimmers. Mostly quiet the week we were here.

We are staying at the Westin Resort. The coastline is very beautiful. The sand is very shell-ey (which is what “Conchal” means in Spanish), so if you are looking for soft sandy beaches .. this is it for you. It’s very beautiful here.

What a beautiful beach! Very unique with 3 parts to it. Far left has packed, rippled sand and a river that runs into the beach, middle section has soft light coloured sand and this is where the Westin resort feeds into the beach. In this...More

Of the 20 or so Costa Rican beaches I've been to, I would rate this as the best. Clean, clear water, good swimming, great sand (whiter and cleaner than most in CR), and plenty of beach activities to take part in.

Unlike Tamarindo, which has a fine black sand beach and good surfing, Playa Conchal is a crushed sea shell beach with good swimming. You can snorkel there too, but don't expect it to be anywhere near what you see in the Caribbean. You can either...More

Warm water, white sand and calm seas. Perfect beach! Jet skis available for rent. Great beach for kids as the water is very calm and there are a few shells.

Playa Conchal is definitely one of the best beach in North Pacific area of CR. Beautiful white sand and turquoise blue water with millions of crushed shells made it so unique.

Pro tip, ignore the people trying to get you to park at the start of the beach. Just drive completely past them they aren't official they just want your money. Instead go as far as you can in the car. The sand gets better and...More

We stayed at the nearby Westin recently and went to Playa Conchal a few times. There are vendors mostly at the entrance and some scattered throughout. Most of them offer tours or massages. There were some vendors selling small souvenirs and some selling food and...More

Hi: The Westin Playa Conchal (an all inclusive resort) is located just steps from the beautiful beach. Yes, you will find vendors there. Check out my hotel review of the Westin. We had a fantastic time there in Jan. 2017... More

If you want to take the "Monkey Road" which is a short-cut to Playa Protrero and south to Conchal, it is a dusty, gravel road OK for 2 WD. If you go slow it will be fine. It is a popular road due to the time saved but it... More

Have to qualify about the Monkey Trail. We drove this frequently but only in the dry season. In the rainy season, you could encounter slides, washouts and unstable terrain. I don't recommend this dirt road in the rainy... More
