Rafting is something to do in Costa Rica. It's a great way to experience the natural environment. The Sarapiqui River, at least the section I rafted, was class 2/3 -- some thrills but not at all sufficient for true adrenaline seekers. The water temperature was perfectly enjoyable. This would be a good river for families with kids over, say, 8 years old. My 6-year-old would be terrified.

We took a white water rafting trip with Pozo Azul Adventures on Class II/II rapids - rough enough to be quite a thrilling ride. You don't just get a bit wet on this ride, you get completely soaked. This was only my second time white water rafting and I was quite glad it wasn't my first attempt. The trip was great fun and health and safety was taken very seriously. It felt exciting - and thrilling - but not really dangerous.

I went white water rafting here with a huge group of teenagers through an organization called Rustic Pathways. Best experience ever. My guide Jodi was amazing and made the experience. Even though white water rafting can be scary my guide was great at making us comfy with it and it a great time. Best experience I have had white water rafting. It's a great place for people to go if it is their first time going white water rafting too. Thank you Jodi for making this such an incredible experience!!!!

Left from San Jose and 2 hours later our group made it to our destination in the Rain Forest. We took a boat ride up the Sarapiqui River and then took a hour long horseback ride through rain forest and late lunch. Returned to original meeting point after a return trip on the river boat, Was a treat to see various bird, a few crocodiles and Howler monkeys along the way. Our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting.

Our intrepid team of 5 headed off with Flow Tours to white water raft the Sarapiqui River. The rains had just started and the flow down the river was great especially for first timers. Never once did we feel unsafe as our guide Rohland was exceptional. He made the trip fun and full of laughter and exhilarating. At the half way mark we stopped to have a swim and were given the most mouthwatering pinapple I have ever tasted. It was all over before it began. Thank you for an unforgettable experience.

Took a boat tour of this river on Christmas day. Nice, calm and relaxing ride. Make sure to bring a DSLR camera with a telephotos lens to take high quality pictures. The other passengers on the boat were disappointed that they brought their point-and-shoot camera and couldn't get the range or sharpness in their photos.
I recommend this boat ride in the Sarapiqui River for single travellers, couples and families.

During the second week of August, I travelled to Costa Rica. My mom (56) and I decided (29) decided to do some White Water Rafting. We have NEVER done this before. We went to the Sarapique River which is a hour and a half away from Arenal. We used Desafio for our WWR tour and our tour guide was Frank - our guide was absolutely fantastic and super patient (considering my mother and I were completely out of sync). It was an AMAZING experience – Rapid Class of III and IV. We learned a lot about the history of this area. It was interesting to learn about the earth quake that happened and how it helped to change the flow of the river. Also, I was surprised to learn that it was indeed a dam and that the dam opens at 10AM each day. It was quite fascinating. This is an absolute must if you visit Costa Rica

We book this boat trip with Grey line and I feel fortunate to get this trip, which has not usually appeared in other tour company's recommendation list --- which is unfortunate. The trip is on the boat, it is very safe and not challenge (my mother feels very easy and happy). We see a lot of animals, including crocodile, cayman, lizard, monkeys, which is unique in Costa Rica. I will highly recommend this place, which seems not been well advertised yet.

This sounds wonderful. I hope you don't mind me asking what tour company you went with for the boat trip and stop at Black Wood Farm. How you might have booked the trip. Many thanks, Jane
