Macaw Sanctuary NATUWA The Macaw Sanctuary Natuwa is a place that provides refuge and protection to the wild animals that have been victims of human actions, such as hunting, the extraction from their environments and the destruction of forest habitats. These actions within natural environments of wildlife increase their vulnerability and cause immense damage to the ecosystems. Many times, the result of removing so many animals from their habitats, are physical and psychological problems that are difficult to overcome. Many of these homeless animals find the necessary attention they need at the Macaw Sanctuary Natuwa to be able to live in captivity with dignity and to find the possibility to return to their natural environments.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Macaw Sanctuary. The birds were beautiful and our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. There were a variety of animals, monkeys, jaguars, oscelots and many different birds. We drove to the sanctuary and the roads were quite rough but it was well worth the drive.

We stopped by here after hearing about it on Trip Advisor. We were the only people there. The guide spoke English and was very informative. It was a little disturbing to know that the birds were rescues from illegal activity but nice to know they were taken care of and safe. I would say go if you are driving by,... More

More sanctuaries and private zoological gardens should be run as well as this one. Animals are well cared for, spacious facilities for the animals, and owners have a good plan for the future. Plus articles in the guest shop are not over-priced! Definitely worth a visit if you are anywhere nearby.

I recently stopped at this Sanctuary with my family. Unfortunately we arrived after a long drive in the middle of a thunderstorm. The guide was nice enough to let us in, get us umbrellas and ponchos and take us through the park. This is a nice little park with many different types of Macaws and other local animals. My daughters... More

Amazing to see this many wild Macaw's in one place. We saw 22 Macaw's in batch of Mango trees. We saw people in Manuel Antonio that hadn't seen even one in days. These guys with Tiquicia Tours certainly know how to show there customers a great experience.

Macaw Sanctuary Natuwa is by far my favorite place to visit in Costa Rica - I’ve returned 4 times!!! It is located in a quaint region of Costa Rica far from any overcrowded tourist areas. The story of how this project began, what it has become, and the vision for the future is truly inspiring. The passion and love behind... More

Sanctuary Lapas NATUWA is a wonderful place to visit. It is truly a project of conservation and refuge for the animals. It is both an educational and inspirational experience!

We loved seeing the macaws, parrots, and all the other birds as well as the different types of monkeys and the jaguars. The family that owns this should be very proud of the good work they do. What a great facility for Costa Rica.

Very interesting seeing the macaws being well looked after. There were some just flying near us which have already been released but they were reluctant to leave and the guide explained that it can take up to a year for them to fly away completely. Well worth a visit.
