We took on e of the boat tours through the mangroves on Isla Damas - these only run at high tide so that the channels have enough water for the boats to get through. Saw lots of really interesting and different wildlife on the trip. White-faced monkeys actually climbed onto our boat to check us out. Our guide also managed to spot two 3-toed sloths AND a 2-toed sloth as well.

It is expensive but I was hoping to see some monkeys as just about every review says you will see monkeys swinging through the trees, etc, etc, etc. Well, we saw not a moving thing through the trees. OK, we did see a few marine birds, but after our recent trip to the Galapagos we had marine birds coming out of our ears already. The tour company was blameless - the guide himself was surprised at that. And everyone from the company was very nice.

Damas Island Mangrove Boat Tour was a rip off. Never told us where to meet the tour. Didn't offer lunch as promised, refused to give us a refund ad the tour guide was terrible and uninformative, If it wasn't for fellow passengers we would not have spotted a single animal or bird. He was shameless about wasting our time listening to him talk about himself and what a great guide he is without pointing out anything. Would really want to get our money back.

We paid $65 per person to do a ‘mangrove tour’ at Isla Damas.
In fairness, on these tours you are at the mercy of nature with regards to what you may or may not see... we saw some monkeys, some birds and lizards and that was about it. Unfortunately no crocodiles.
A nice experience with enthusiastic guides, and of course you sometimes want to take the opportunity of seeing a mangrove if you can... but we both thought it was grossly overpriced.
The tour lasts about 3 hours (from hotel pick-up to return, and that includes about an hour of lunch at a hotel in Quepos). Ultimately, there are better things to do in the area so we wouldn’t recommend you go out of your way to go here...

If you are looking for a remote place to visit or stay during your time in Costa Rica, look no further! Isla Damas boasts incredible beaches, beautiful sunsets and sunrises and views of Manuel Antonio. I love this area!
