We are so glad we started our second visit to Costa Rica with this visit. Beside the beautiful history of this country laid out before us in detail, if we had only seen the butterfly garden that would have been enough! And, it was FREE👍

Not sure about the butterfly entrance but an interning building with a facinating history. Lovely gardens and some interesting exhibits - old photos of San Jose, period rooms - one with a most beautiful mirror - and pretty gardens.

The butterfly garden was the highlight for me. I was surprised that they didn't offer written guides in multiple languages. Most museums around the world do to cater to tourists. I feel like my lack of fluency in Spanish impacted my enjoyment of the museum as most descriptions were in Spanish and as indicated above, there were no alternative language... More

Two of the five rooms were closed due restoration. The entrancefee was 9 dollar p.p. The butterflygarden was nice but the rest of the exposition was crappy. Some historyvwith objects, some modern photoart and an exhibition with peaces of wood which I didn't understand at all because the explanation was in Spanish and I couldn't make wood out of it... It is in a lovely location but got bored fairly quickly probably because the tour guide is very enthusiastic of her country, rightly so, but gave too much info

I visited the national museum in early november, with an entrance fee of 9usd which is okay for a national museum. The butterfly garden was pretty cool, but after that I didnt find Anything really worthy, most exhibitions were closed, and the others were not really interresting. ( i've already visited the precolombian museum) The Colonial house was Nice, but... More

The National Museum is a must see place if you are in San José, Costa Rica. Great for kids but really for all ages. Besides the Pre-Columbian cultural exhibits, you will also find explanations of Costa Rican Post-Columbian history. You should plant for a good 2 to 3 hours visit.

It was ok most exhibits were closed. They had a nice butterfly garden but nothing to exciting. It's right next to the Market so it's a nice place to pop into but not a must see in my opinion.

This is a beautiful place, very big and great to see and understand a little about Costa Rica's history. At the time I sent it was under upgrades so some of the exhibits were closed but it was free. :)
