From floor to ceiling all to be admired. The stained glass windows are fantastic. I had the opportunity to attend the ceremony of the holy burial and it is something really wonderful

Not a 'Great' Cathedral by European standards but culturally significant and worth a visit. Interesting architecture

We entered the free uninspiring church by climbing the fenced stairs to the peal of its 2 tower's bells. The bright tiled interior was surprisingly beautiful; a long classic 3 aisle hall divided by 14 Doric columns. Its high center arch ended in a large well lighted and colorful dome over the altar ambulatory. We were drawn to the 12... More

Unlike some Latin American capitals, San Jose does not have an historical Colonial downtown. At least buildings that might have been there in the past have been destroyed by earthquakes or torn down for another reason. The cathedral or Metropolitan church is a case in point. Although it was originally built I believe in 1802, t has been restored a... More

Metropolitan church has a rich history snide its walls. I felt that I was touring a very sacred place filled with rich culture. I had an opportunity to peek inside one of the local jewels. I could feel how important religion is to the community. A wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone who has a curious mind. You... More

From outside it does not look like an interesting building. Grayish in color and kind of footless. Neoclassical colums in front like many other worldly buildings from the same period. Beautiful church in terms of stained glass, religious icons (check out the visitor pix to get a taste) I stumbled into someone in the organ loft practicing - gorgeous. Would have loved to visit during a service to hear the music.
