Just completed. Expect broken windshields due to gravel spread on ice and snow areas. Lots of commercial traffic, particularly logging trucks. Road surfaces are improved from last trip 18 months ago. Fuel availability was not an issue. Visibility and changing weather along with speed faster...More

We drove a RV from NY to Alaska and took three months. This road is an awesome, beautiful experience but be prepared to be nervous at times. We saw snowmen in August! We saw lightning and hail at the same time. Many people have flats...More

FYI - if you come to Delta Junction after Labor Day, you won't see much as most is closed... but you can still stop and get a picture of the "end of the AlCan" sign. There are some neat little sculptures of mosquitos and a...More

We've discussed for years driving to Alaska. So we did last month. We had heard the roads were bad but "bad" doesn't begin to describe it! In many parts they were the absolute worst roads we have traveled. And we have driven many 4 wheel...More

We took a road trip from SF to Alaska via Yellowstone National Park, Calgary, Edmonton, Alaskan Highway, Anchorage, Fairbanks and returned via cassier Highway to Vancouver. The Alaskan Highway part was marvellous, with lakes, forests, wildlife, snow and vast natural beauty. We saw beer, mountain...More

Delta Junction is the official end of the Alaska Hwy, over 1400 miles from Dawson Creek BC. It is a long, hard road on a motorcycle, with many areas either under repair or needing repair. But it was well worth the effort! The scenery is...More

I'll be driving the Alaskan Highway in June of 2017 in an RV. Not sure how many miles we can expect to cover each day. Do we need to have campground reservations? Since we don't know how far we'll be able to travel each day I wasn't sure what to do about reservations.

I have not stayed in a campground with a reservation and have made the drive twice in an RV. perhaps in some of the bigger city areas it would reduce stress to know where you would spend the night, and if they take... More

I am from Australia and want to know if it is possible to hire a vehicle in Vancouver and then drop it off in Anchorage after driving the Alaska Highway?

Best bet might be one of the RV rental companies, but I am not sure either.

Possible 2016 Trip: My wife and I are planning to rent a RV for 8-10 days and do the typical Loop up to Denali and then over to Glennallen and down to Valdez before returning . Some questions> 1. The Denali National Park requires 3 day stay. Is it work dedicated that much time there or just one day and travel into the park? 2. Is Fairbanks worth driving up to? 3. Assuming one were to go to Fairbanks, it would seem the most efficient way to go down to Valdez is via Delta Junction and then Glennallen. I read though that the road from Cantwell to Paxson (George Banks Highway) is not to be missed. Would you back track from Fairbanks back to Cantwell and then cut over to Paxson or not? Thanks in advance.
