We have been on the South Fork trail many times but have never had the time to go to Eagle and Symphony Lakes. You will love the trail no matter how far you go. However the Eagle and Symphony Lake destination is worth the 12 mile round trip. The late summer/early fall is a particularly nice time to go, with... More

While this hike can be a little challenging, it is worth the effort. Beautiful mountain views, lake views, and valley views.

Located near Eagle River - this hike for the most part is very easy. Some people will have some difficulty in the moraine (rocks) near the lakes; just take your time and watch your footing to keep your ankles happy for the hike back. I have been out there a handful of times - the most wildlife I ever see... More

This is a great hike along the south fork of Eagle River to a couple of turquoise lakes surrounded by incredible mountain scenery. The trailhead is only about a half hour drive from downtown Anchorage. It's about a nine mile roundtrip hike to the lakes. It's not a strenuous hike. Although the lakes are the big draw, you can turn... More

An absolute amazing journey through the valley, surrounded by the Chugach Mountains. This is too spectacular to miss. The hike is fairly easy, with well maintained trails, and amazing views, so make sure you bring your camera to capture the moments and good hiking shoes, as it is quite a distance to the lakes. The lakes are situated in the... More

This is a wonderful place right in Anchorage's backyard, and it offers a lot of options for day hikers. If you just have a little time, you don't have to go all the way to the lakes, and you'll still have a beautiful hike. A nice stopping place is the footbridge over the Eagle River South Fork. It only takes... More

The South Fork Trail head in Eagle River's South Fork Valley is the access to hike into Eagle and Symphony Lakes. I live in the valley and this is my favorite spot in all of Alaska for hikes as soon as the snow melts from the trail. Highlights include wild blueberries and low bush cranberries, wildflowers as far as you... More

Such a nice hike! Went there twice: once in November, once in December. Make sure to allow yourself enough time for the full hike to the lakes in the winter months, so you don't have to hurry to get back before the dark will fall. Watch our for wild animals. I saw a moose about three hundred yards from the... More

The trail is busy on the weekends, Rain or shine. I climbed to the pass to Artic valley, and explored hidden valley. The scenery is outstanding complete with meandering stream and eagle glacier views. There are patches of blueberries to pick in the fall.
