Get your cameras ready! This place is paradise! Unbelievable views! We got a really nice day too, not too cold and windy but we would have come here in any weather! This is a place everyone on Earth should see at least once!

This was a tail end of another tour, but a good postscript. The effects of glacial retreat due to climate change were very effective. this is an easy excursion out of Juneau - not to be missed

When the tide is not in you can get very close to the face of the glacier. Many viewing areas for the glacier. If you have the time to hike one hour each way the Nugget Falls should not be missed.

Make sure to wear a rain coat and shoes that can get wet. It was a beautiful nature walk to Nugget Falls. Took about 25 minutes to walk. The walk to Nugget Falls does not provide access to the Glacier which was my only disappointment...More

Our bus stopped here after whale watching. They have a great visitor center but getting close to the glacier is a bit tricky. Nice but not anyway close to Glacier Bay.

Any visit to Juneau, Alaska must include a visit to Mendenhall Glacier. Run by the US Forest Service, the visitor center is right by the glacier. You can walk to a huge waterfall or even swim amongst the icebergs in the glacier pool.

This was an amazing sight to see. Definitely worth going out to the national park to get a good view of the glacier. There is a nice walk closer out to the glacier, which goes out to Nugget Falls. It is an easy flat track....More

Visited here a few days ago. It was pouring buckets and very windy, but we wanted to do something while in Juneau and decided to go to the Glacier. So glad we did! Walked out to the waterfall which was so full of power/force it...More

Well worth the visit to see a glacier and falls up close and personal. Easy, level hike to Nugget Falls with a great view of the glacier. Early morning or late day visits are best if you want to avoid the crowds and also increases...More

If your cruise ship lands in Juneau, Alaska, a visit to the Mendenhall Glacier is worthwhile and can be done inexpensively with a little exercise. Take the Express bus to connect with one that goes to within about a mile of the glacier. ( this...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
We are cruising and will be there from 2 until 10 pm. The cruise ship tour prices are very high and I was wondering if we could do this "off-line" by booking locally when we get there. Doable or not advised? How do I get there using public transportation. I may be the only one in our group interested in this visit.

The last time I went, I took a taxi. But Juneau also has a public bus system that is pretty good. I think it cost $1-$2. So you could take the bus to the closest drop-off by the glacier and walk the rest of the way and it... More

I heard that tours inside the caves of mendenhall glacier are cancelled a lot of the times due to the weather. Is this true? I'm visiting in June and interested but don't want to be disappointed if cancelled at the last minute. Thanks

Honestly I didn't take any tours so I can't answer this question. But it would make sense that it would be weather dependent. Still..even if the Glacier caves weren't accessible due to weather, you could get to the Glacier... More

We rented a car when we first arrived in Juneau. It was easy and allowed you to do shopping and checking our places to eat!
