This was a much more exciting way to travel from Valdez to the Whittier cruise ship dock than taking a bus. The boat was very fast moving and the ride was smooth. We slowed down to see sea otters and sea lions. Our group had...More

Get up close with real Alaskans and the scenery. Not the slow boat but close enough to see Orcas from the deck, bald eagles soaring and dolphin S playing tag with the bow. Buy food I board or bring your own or do both.

Overall our experience on the ferry Malispan was great and we would encourage anyone wanting to see the remote coastline of BC and Alaska to book a trip. The negatives; 1) this is not a luxury cruise so manage your expectations. 2) Expect last minute...More

I took the AMH system and I'm glad I did but I won't do it again. It's beautiful but sometimes painfully long. Here are some of the things I learned: 1. Sometimes the ferry leaves early. They ask that you arrive two hours before the...More

Definitely an interesting way to get up the coast. You have to really want to rough it, though. I was more than ready to be off the boat by the time we got to Juneau. The scenery was great, though it helps that we had...More

So glad we took the ferry (MV Malaspina) from Juneau to Sitka. Had to be at the terminal very very early in the morning, but it was well worth it. Had a great breakfast on board, and they even have a microwave available in the...More

I had a great experience sailing from Bellingham to Juneau. The ship was impeccably clean and kept like that during the three days of travel. Every crew member I talked to (from cleaning to cafeteria crew) was very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. A 5 hr...More

We live in Haines, 85 miles north of Juneau, Alaska. When we travel we have to get to Juneau to fly out. Since Juneau is where locked you have to fly down in a small plane or take the ferry. Since we always need to...More

I've done the AMHS 3 times (on various vessels) and in both directions. On board accommodations are excellent, lounges are comfortable with good viewing, ford is surprisingly good and reasonable and crew friendly. To me, the best part of using the AMHS is the flexibility...More

Was pleased with cleanliness of ship as well as AMHS employees and crew. Also took the MV Columbia back south from Sitka to Bellingham, viewing magnificent sunsets south of Ketchikan. Much prefer the layed back, less crowded atmosphere of AMHS

The ferries go to the start of Glacier Bay. From there you can go to the National Park Lodge and take their small ship which goes out daily for a great, up close, cute of the bay and all the wildlife with a ranger. A stay at... More
