I love totem poles and, thanks to our wonderful guide and the poles preserved at this facility, I now understand them better. This is a place of oral history; there aren't a lot of placards to explain the poles so you need an interpretive guide to really appreciate what you are seeing. I am so thankful for the new knowledge... More

very atmospheric. Choc full of enormous carved totems . Lovely welcoming informative staff who give free chats every now and then which are in fact magical story tellings behind the meaning of the poles originally and the people who carved them. Small but a gem Easily walkable from town and cruise ships - about 10 minutes. . beautifully presented in... More

The heritage center was very interesting and full of very historical information about local totem poles. We really enjoyed seeing REAL totem poles and not just replicas.

We happened upon this on our self-guided afternoon walking tour. Since we'd been at Totem Bight park in the morning, seeing and learning more about history and uses of totem poles, as well as some very old ones, completed the day.

We were on a port stop on our cruise. We had been to Ketchikan before but had not done much of a walk around. This was an interesting museum with actual totem poles and history. The cost is minimal. Depending on how much reading you do you can spend as much time as you like.

Interesting, scenic, easy to get to. It was a well laid out little museum that gave us an appreciate for the culture and history of the totem.

Owned and operated by the City of Ketchikan Museum Department. If this museum is indicative of the quality of the Museum Department's locations, I am very sorry we did not have time to visit others. This is a collection of 19th century totem poles retried in the 1970s with the permission of Native elders. Due to deterioration, these are not... More

We stopped here on the official walk around the city. Fascinating stuff - we were quite absorbed by the history and the stories
