We took an Alaskan Inside Passage Cruise and I wanted to find something that would be good for both me, my MIL and my 2 elementary aged children. When I saw this, I thought it would be nice - not super fun and excited but interesting and active. It was really warm in Ketchikan the week we were in Alaska.... More

We took this tour booked through the Holland America Volendam cruise ship. The day was a miserable day, with fairly heavy rain. Bus trip to the Sanctuary was good with a very colorful driver who was entertaining. They provided disposable ponchos which were quite adequate. Lovely to walk through the rainforest, most of which was on a boardwalk. After waiting... More

Nice to stroll along the rainforest, easy walk and short. The guide is very knowledgeable. Beautiful sceneries and a lot of vegetation and plants. If you go in the right time (Sept?), you may see a salmon run and bears feeding on the salmons. Bring light jacket or windbreaker. I can be misty. The nice thing about this rainforest, unlike... Don't go on this excursion. We paid $240 each and saw 1 bear. We walked 50 feet on a man made boardwalk and stayed there the whole time watching 1 bear and her cub. We didn't see salmon, reindeer, bald eagles, nothing else they advertise in their brochure.

We booked this excursion through our cruise ship when we docked in Ketchikan. What a waste of money. We were there the first week in October. The Ranger was finishing for the season at the end of our week and it felt as though she couldn't be bothered any more. By this time the salmon run has practically dried up... More

Ketchikan was our first port whilst travelling on the Coral Princess. Our guides that day were Cassie & Ellie. They were incredibly knowledgeable & enthusiastic. We walked along a boardwalk elevated above the forest floor, which to be honest was not what I was expecting. It was a beautiful rainforest. We observed a few playful red squirrels & gulls, but... A non-strenuous walk w/naturalist through a temporal rainforest, beside a salmon hatchery (wild release), and into a studio where expert carvers are at work on a towering totem pole. With luck, otters will be in the river munching on migrating salmon or just floating on their backs.

If walking through a rain forest is your thing then this is a good excursion to take. The guides are very knowledgeable and make sure you are informed about the flora and forna being observed. The highlight of this trip was finding a stream that was chocka block with spawning salmon and 2 black bears feeding off the salmon. The... More

Got off the ship thinking we would have an interesting walk and ended up having an amazing guided tour by Kevin. It was spawning season so it turned out that the black bears were have a major feast in Eagle Creek and there were dead salmon all over the place and 4 black bears a number of bald eagles, seals... Here's a hike you can't beat: bald eagles flying all around you because they know there are plenty of salmon in the creek at your feet for all to share, 3-4" banana slugs and delicate thimble berries ornament the lower canopy...LOTS of black bears to watch in late July and August, and the trees!! Look up and see if you... More
