This is the history of Alaska. Men and women have been coming here for centuries to make money off the natural resources. This was an interesting time in history. I'm glad that Alaska is working to keep it alive. We came here from Talkeetna over...More

We stopped here and spent about 3 hours exploring and learning about the Alaska Gold Rush and mining history. There are some restored buildings (mostly the Visitor Center which was the former Mine Manager's home, bunkhouses, and several other outbuildings, etc.). Much of the former...More

Interesting mine and history that takes a couple hours to visit but there are numerous trails and a small alpine lake you can drive to in less than a mile. The drive up to the mine follows a beautiful creek with big rocks you can...More

The area was spectacularly beautiful and the park buildings were interesting. One of the rangers took time to talk with us and give us the history of the area and gold mining in Alaska. Very nice visit.

We traveled in late June and there was still a bit of snow on the ground and mist on the mountains that made the experience magical. Easy hikes and well marked trails. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed the walk through the ruins of the old mining camp . The view of the surrounding peaks was great and the view of the Mat-Su Valley was awesome !!

This place is beautiful! So quiet and peaceful. Very easy hike. I did it carrying a toddler. The climb gets harder as you go up. All vegetation is short so you don't have to worry about bears surprising you.

Roughly 25-30 miles. Good paved roads all the way. Beautiful views along the way. If needed, when you get to parking area, follow signs to handicapped unloading area. Eliminates a little uphill walking.
