The Astor hotel is amazing and so beautiful! Truly an iconic piece of history. The museum is small, should take you roughly 30 minutes to complete it, however walking around the hotel is nice and their restaurant is also great!

A very nice hotel located in Heping District. The old building of the hotel is still kept the same and the new building is more modern and adds a very contrasting touch to the entire hotel. A luxurious property on its own. The museum is located at the basement of the old building. Free entry for hotel guests and non... More

Even if you are not going to pay for the Hotel Museum for around RMB 50 per person (hotel guests free of charge), walking inside the hotel and some areas (not its main lobby of today) will be interesting. Some old lobby areas, with its decorations, are preserved, and one could access for free. Love it. The Hotel is opposite... More

The hotel has a small museum that tells the story of the hotel and of Tianjin, a city that used to be one of the few cities open to foreigners. Maps show how the old city center was divided into German, Italian, Etc. Concessions. Lots of old photos document famous visitors.

We came across this building whilst wandering around Tianjin. It is a beautiful old building, with an interesting museum. A great place to look around as the building has great architect and a grand foyer etc.

we have visited the Chinese restaurant in this hotel in August 2013 when we first arrived in Tianjin. What a mistake! The hotel has a long history, but the food and the service of the restaurant probably only took the heritage from the cultural-revolution part. The shrimp dish was cold and the shrimp was deep-frozen type; the meat dish is... More

The interesting part of this hotel lies in the basement museum. It tells the story of that era from the point of view of the hotel. Also, the "back entrance" of the hotel offers a good spot to take photos. Just across the road, there's a small city park with beautiful flower gardens.

I liked because it is a visit where you can get some knowledge about modern chinese history. It has a small museum you can visit for free. If you want you can stay at this hotel and feel how was living in the end of 18th century begining 19th.

As soon as you walk in the lobby you notice 3 things. The immense winding staircase on the left, the huge tea atrium ahead and the mural of the harbor over the front desk. That alone is worth the visit but there is a museum in the basement with priceless historical photos and mementos.
