This is the REAL DEAL! We visited Sundog Kennels while we were in Talkeetna at the end of April. My 8-year-old son is studying the Iditarod at school and was interested in seeing a real sled dog kennel and interviewing an Iditarod musher. The end of April is a tough time to find tours in Alaska because winter tours are... More

What an amazing experience with great host, Jerry Sousa himself, and Kathleen, who was simply wonderful. You couldn't ask for a better experience!

I read all the bad reviews to see what people didn't like before we took our tour. I felt the owners did a good job explaining their operating procedures and that this was a WORKING DOG KENNEL. They explained how they hook the dogs up, and why they stand them on their hind two legs to prevent injury. Why they... More

We had a great time visiting Sundog Kennel. It was fun and educational. The ride with the dogs through the woods was good fun and the dogs enjoyed it. It was great to interact with the dogs after the run. We have some great pictures to remember our visit. Our thanks to Jerry and Kathleen!

Wish I'd checked TripAdvisor before we signed up for this experience. As mentioned in several other reviews, the owners are rude and not friendly. At all. When Kathleen arrived in a van to transport us to the kennels, she seemed annoyed. She didn't say hello and there was no conversation during the ride. Once we arrived at the kennels, some... More

I had no idea how interesting the Iditarod race history was until I did this tour. Kathleen's explanation of the preparation, training and racing was facinating! The dog's are thin but that doesn't mean malnourished. Race horses are thin too. These dogs are strong and conditioned. The owner's take care of their health with proper nutrition, hydration, training, medical observation... More

It was great to learn about sled dogging and see the dogs. They hitched them up to a small jeep and gave the dogs a work out while we got to ride in the jeep. Glad we had a chance to do this tour.

We were expecting dogs pulling sleds (with wheels) not an ATV with the motor running. They explain this at the beginning of the tour why they sue the ATV but still. We all expected sleds. There really isn't much to the tour? We expected to be able to let the dogs but you really only get 2-3 minutes of petting... More

We visited Sun Dog Kennels at the end of the land tour portion of our Alaska experience with Princess Cruise Lines. It was fun and educational. The kennel had 60 sled dogs being trained for racing by the owner, Jerry Sousa, who has participated in many Iditarod races. We got to interact with the dogs and go on a 5... More

We got to ride in an ATV pulled by the sled dogs, pet the dogs after the ride, hold the puppies and saw moose up close from the van.
