Our group made a pit stop here on the way to Valdez. The view is just off the highway. In late May, there was still snow everywhere, except on the road, which added to the beautiful experience.

This is a great stop along the Richardson Highway. It is just off the road and it is a short walk to the toe of the glacier. If you are adventurous, it is a pretty easy walk right up to the base and a cave...More

This stop is easily accessible from the road. I think mile 30 or 33. There were some informational kiosks that made for quick reading and two hiking trails. One went up where you were adjacent to the glacier and one went down so you were...More

Worthington Glacier is a nice stop enroute to Valdez. There is a paved path to a viewing area if needed for strollers or wheel chairs. Then for those who want to get closer, you can follow a gravel travel (watch for some loose rocks, a...More

Easy hike, beautiful views, lots of parking. Bathrooms could use a little cleaning but this was a great place to check out!

Glacier is receding but still there! There was still snow on the paths but the day was sunny and bathrooms were open. Nice to hear the waterfalls even at a long distance. Thompson Pass has spectacular views!

Thompson pass and Worthington glacier are beautiful any time of year. Winter time is extremely cold. Dress like you don't want to die from hypothermia in 5 mins and you should be ok for interested and a short hike.

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Is there a particular time of day that Worthington Glacier would be best, to see and photograph in early September, assuming the day is nice of course. Pictures I have seen, the glacier seems to be pointing due east?!?

Any time you can see the glacier clearly is a god time. The weather in Thompson Pass can change quickly so it can be lousy 1 hour and be nice the next. Watch Valdez weather and if is clear there, take a drive up the pass... More
Is there a parking fee or anything to visit this location?
