We stayed in a guesthouse in the neighbourhood for a couple of nights a had a wonderful time here. Several nice places to go for a drink, good restaurants with value-for-money around the corner and some nice shops, especially in the Boxes area.

Melville has become quiet trendy over the years but it is looking a bit tired now and the pavements are a mess. There are a cluster of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops in this small suburb of Johannesburg. Parking is an issue so be warned. Needs refreshing somehow!

Crazy to admit living in Jhb, but had avoided Melville for some time since it was, frankly, becoming a bit of a dump. Pleasantly surprised recently to find a surge of interesting new restaurants in the main road.

having lived in Melville for many years, it is one of my favourite places yet recently has gone into a slack period with great shops, galleries, closing creating an unwelcome class of people to fill that void....in many places destroying, upsetting, just for the sake of there type of fun....with nothing from the local police etc assisting in stopping this... This place was chosen by chance and it was not a disappointment. there were a good selection of restaurants and bars all very friendly. walking after dark ws not recommended despite there being security at various points around the town. A torch would be handy as not all street lights work and the pavements are in a bad state of... More

There are a wide variety of restaurants and shops in the Melville Area with the recent addition of 27 Boxes. This is an artistic community with actors, writers, musicians and artists living and working in the area. You will definitely see a few interesting characters for sure. The houses in Melville are old and full of character ! I love... More

Hip, Trendy scene, very safe in evenings, many bars and seemed very western. Totally safe to walk around and bars were not too full, but good sized.
