This was our 2nd visit to the Apartheid Museum- an attraction that really needs to be on a list of must dos for all visitors to Johannesburg. There is a section devoted to the life and history of Nelson Mandela and another section looking at the rise and fall of apartheid. We have found each visit to be an emotional... More

I visited this place during my visit to Johannesburg. I went there in order to provide IT consultancy to a Company. I toiled hard for the entire week and was able to complete the assigned work beforehand so my hosts decided to provide me a rewarding leisure trip for weekend. It was decided that I shall visit two places namely... More

Apartheid is a loaded topic whose history played out over a long period of time. The Museum attempts to convey all the historical facts of significant events, as well as give visitors a sense of the impact various policies. I feel much better educated on the history and impact of apartheid, and of South Africa in general, having gone to... More

A complex museum that spells out in words, pictures and videos, the dehumanising horror of a political system of systemic oppression of one race by another. There was even a clip of a ministerial broadcast praising the system and suggesting that other countries might do well to copy the South African approach to segregation! Allow plenty time (at least 2... More

A great insight into the history of South Africa and troubled history. Make sure you allow at least half a day as we were on a tour and only had limited time. The majority of the exhibits involved english text and only minimal AV presentations, but interesting overall.

This imaginative and informative museum is set in an excellent example of modern museum architecture. It is apolitical and definitely on the list of must dos for visitors (unlike for instance Robben Isand in Cape Town). It offers a meaningful insight into the apartheid past in a well thought out way. Allow as much time as you can spare or... More

We spent four hours at this museum after a month traveling around South Africa and just before flying home....it helped put into perspective all we had seen during our travels. The museum is very compact and well set out......we didn't discover until too late that they had audio guides which would have been useful. However this didn't detract from the... More
