This museum is a reminder of things we as human being shouldn't forget, so we don't make the same mistakes again. It is far from town, but the highways connect Joburg easily and the uber was not expensive at all. They open early but close at 4 in the afternoon, so make sure you go with plenty of time to... A very interesting museum which takes the visitor through the turbulent years of Apartheid, with a special section on the life of Nelson Mandela. There is a cafe at the exit which serves food.

We visited this museum as a stop off on our Hop On Hop Off bus tour of J'burg. It takes at least an hour to walk around, but can take longer if you stop to read every piece of the detailed explanation. I found it interesting, especially the section on Nelson Mandela's early life, however it didn't flow as I... More

The museum really puts the historical context of South Africa in perspective, and I suggest that anyone visiting the country attend if possible.

Certainly a must if you visit Johannesburg. An historic visit with lots of information that was not always told to us in the UK. Allow at least 2 hours for this visit. A good idea is to take the Tourist Open Air Bus to this place. We took a taxi and this was expensive.

As a solo tourist in Johannesburg, I would definitely recommend an Uber to the apartheid museum. You can travel here on your own, as the location is very safe. I was lucky enough to attend the apartheid museum - which also had the Nelson Mandela exhibition. It would take probably about four hours or more if you were to read... More

Entertaining foreign visitors is the one time that a local gets to experience one's home city through the eyes of a tourist. As part of the hop-on-hop-off bus tour we stopped off at the apartheid museum just south of the city Centre, close to the Gold Reef City complex. The museum was very interesting and should be on every visitors... More

Give yourself two to three hours and be prepared to read. The displays are succinct and somewhat understated which leavs one with a deeper sence of what it was like to live as the oppressed. You will walk away with with a deep respect for those who endured yet applied dignified principles in forgiving and moving on. The visit is... More
