This used to be called the roof top market and, in days gone by, it was massive. It is a shadow of its former self and now has lots more produced goods, food and other offerings than African curios, but it is still the place to go to grab a wide selection of Africana, whether you are a local buying... we didn't do much shopping on our 3 week road trip. we decided to buy everything at the rosebank mall at the African flea market and we got everything we needed. don't be scared to haggle.

As cool markets go the African Flea Market is an institution and is always buzzing. Attracting both locals and tourists the diversity of traders is a treat all by itself. There is very little that annoys more than the shabby handling of the African craft market in Rosebank.It has been demoted from a vibrant and pulsing outdoor space 20 years ago, to a rather gilded but at least a respectful , well designed space above the mall which lasted for about 15 years.The latest incarnation of the market is a... Not worth going out of your way for. Lots of vendors from all over Africa. Many stalls selling very similar curios. I found the sculptures made of recycled rubber thongs the most interesting and creative items on sale. Located upstairs near the entrance. be prepared to barter for items.Can be a little expensive. Also be aware of what you can bring back into your own Country ie Ostrich eggs may be confiscated. The lads are pleasant don't hassle you and are just trying to make a living.Think what its worth to you.
