Great history!

Its one of those lovely surpriswes, and Modderfontein is the best for history in the whole of Joburg. Very interesting stuff when you dig!

It is so interesting part of Johannesburg and SA history with the names of many famous SA personalities who were involved in introduction of dynamite production into SA .There are exhibits, lots of photographs, old machinery, even and nurse... The museum is well worth a visit as it provides insights into the start of one of the largest explosives factories in the world. Although worth a visit, the museum is not very big and will take the average visitor less than an hour to go through. Once needs to outweigh the benefits of visiting against the travel time to... A real find. recommended by someone on Facebook and happy I went. Good exhibit, also an opportunity to get to grips with the history, both of Dynamite and Nobel and the South African past, Dutch, English, Boers and all. And its free!

The history of dynamite manufacture in South Africa, artefacts from the (still-working) factory, and displays about the people who made it all happen are crammed into the first Factory Manager's house. There's something for everyone.

Lovely surroundings, interesting aspect of the history of Johannesburg, gold mining and the development of early industry in the Transvaal I also grew up in Modderfontein, so it is fairly special
